JUNE 2003

Hello Friends,
It was great to see so many of you last month at our panel on “New Avenues for Song Revenue.” Your interest, enthusiasm, and focused questions helped make the night a smashing success.

This month, WIM presents another of our special up-close-and-personal evenings—this time with the talented Catherine Russell, a singer whose résumé is truly star-studded. I hope you’ll join us at the Telephone Bar to hear Catherine talk about her extensive career on the road and in the studio.

Meanwhile, we were thrilled to learn that Jill Sobule was recently cast in an upcoming feature film. While this project will not allow her to spend an evening with us this month, we are rescheduling with her for later this year.

I look forward to seeing you soon,
Caroline Horn

WIM Presents
The Secrets of Session and Stage Singing
A Special Evening with Catherine Russell

Wednesday, June 18, 2003
6:30 to 8:00

Do you have what it takes to nail the vocal at the end of a long day in the studio? Are you prepared -- vocally and otherwise -- to go out and sing every night for a 3-month tour? Come and get tips on session and stage singing from one of the hottest singers in town!

Whether you realized it or not, you have undoubtedly heard the dynamic and powerful voice of Catherine Russell on several of the albums in your personal collection. Catherine's spectacular vocal abilities have kept her very busy with stage, recording, and television appearances. She has toured with Paul Simon, Edie Brickell, Steely Dan, Cyndi Lauper, Elvis Costello, and Chaka Khan, to name just a few. Catherine's recording credits include albums by Donald Fagan, Gloria Estefan, Rosanne Cash, Joan Osborne, Marc Cohn, and Madonna.

Catherine has appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and performed on Broadway in the production of Big River. She also is a member of the voice studies faculty at the Berklee College of Music.

We are grateful to Catherine for making time to chat with WIM during a brief break in her current tour with Jackson Browne.

Come down and have a drink in the cozy back room at Telephone, and hear about what it takes to harmonize with the greats!
